Lil Yachty’s Resurgence

Updated: Apr 24, 2023

Lil Yachty has been a very interesting artist since his hit song "One Night". He had a great start with two mixtapes with Lil Boat and Summer Songs 2. Then his debut album Teenage Emotions came out. People blasted it for its low quality, and it flopped commercially. He then stagnated and didn't really make a lot of noise, other than dropping Lil Boat 2 and 3, which didn't gain much traction. It looked like his career was in the mud. 2021 is the year everything changed.

Michigan Boy Boat, was a mixtape that shows Yachty trying a new sound. It came out with glowing reviews, with some calling it Yachty's best project. The commercial success wasn't there with this project, but it seemed like Yachty was back to dropping quality music, and people were starting to take notice.

Yachty went around a year staying quiet, not really dropping a lot. He was working on a new album that was different than what he had been making. A sound on TikTok leaks, catapulting Yachty into the spotlight. It was Poland, and in about a week everyone heard or knew about the song. Yachty now became a bigger face in the industry after a break and years of limited commercial success.

He then dropped his new alternative album, Let's Start Here, which is my choice for album of the year, so far. It is such a different sound for Yachty and it works. Yachty showed that he can be a versatile artist while also making a great album. He had two straight projects that were acclaimed by the fans. Yachty had now gained back respect and traction. He then dropped "Strike (Holster)", another song that has gained traction on TikTok. Yachty is starting to become a regular on people's TikTok feeds while dropping quality music. His resurgence is here, and I'm here for it.
