The Tortured Poets Department Review: You'll Like It If You Like Taylor Swift

Unfortunately for me, I am not the biggest fan of Taylor Swift. She makes passable music and that's what TTPD is in its two-hour runtime. There are some highlights like "But Daddy I Love Him" and "My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys" but for the most part it is the same formulaic music from Taylor. There are not enough risks on this album, and nothing here is experimenting with a new sound. You would hope the biggest artist in the world would push music forward.

Taylor is making music for her stans, which I can respect. That is why the title of this review is what it is. This album isn't to get new fans in, it is to keep current fans satisfied. Taylor doesn't need more fans and she knows it. She is by far the biggest star in music, she can sit and make music like this and ride to a million-sold album units first week. I am not a fan of hers other than a few songs here and there, so this album didn't hit for me.

TTPD is a double album which was titled The Anthology. This is the slower of the two albums, which for the most part is a lull for me other than a few standouts like "thanK you aIMee" and "So High School". I like more of the upbeat Taylor and I'm not a huge fan of the slower songs she makes, but there is a purpose for them.

Overall, I'll take some songs here and there off this album but I didn't leave this album with a lot of thoughts or new praise for Taylor. It's an okay album and not for me, it's for the people that love her music and that's okay. I'm glad I gave it a chance but this album is merely just okay, in my opinion.
